A chance Facebook post—and a little encouragement from his beautiful wife—brought StormDammage's new lead singer, Matthew Sweet, back into contact with former neighbor and rhythm guitarist Arthur Wilkerson. Discovering that longtime family friend Dan Damm was the bass player as well made the reunion feel even more destined. After nearly 30 years away from performing in a band, Matt is back on stage and living the rock-and-roll dream once again.
Raised in the suburbs of Detroit's legendary rock scene, music has been woven into Matt's life from the very beginning. His father introduced him to Elvis, his mother nurtured his love of singing through church choir, and as a young performer he even sang for the Pope at Detroit's Hart Plaza with a youth chorale. It didn't take long for music to become more than a hobby—it became part of who he was.
When his older sisters introduced him to the world of rock and roll, there was no turning back. Influenced by the giants of the '70s—Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, KISS, and Lynyrd Skynyrd—Matt developed a deep appreciation for powerful vocals and larger-than-life performances. As the '80s arrived, his passion shifted into overdrive. Fueled by countless Columbia House deliveries and an obsession with hard rock and glam metal, artists like Mötley Crüe, Poison, Hanoi Rocks, Great White, and Ratt became the soundtrack of his youth. Add in the raw power of Metallica, Guns N' Roses, and Megadeth, and it's easy to hear the influences that shape his sound today.
Drawing inspiration from legendary frontmen such as Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Ronnie Van Zant, and Freddie Mercury, Matt brings a blend of soulful vocals, high-energy stage presence, and genuine passion to every performance. Whether delivering heartfelt ballads or hard-hitting rock anthems, he's proud to be the new voice of StormDammage and ready to keep the spirit of rock alive for every crowd that comes to party.
